Even more retarded math

If you didn't already know, I have a problem with the way schools are teaching our kids these days. I've ranted about it many times (here and here) but this will probably be my final one. I get it. They're breaking it down so that the kids understand the concept, i.e. dumbing it down for the stupid people. (A bit harsh, I know. But true).

But once they understand the concept, can they move on to a more efficient way of solving this problem? The addition algorithm? I just got in a rage when Tyson said the teacher doesn't allow them to use the "old school" way (algorithm). 😡
