I ate too much sugar on this holiday weekend. We had two dozen donuts, 24 donuts, which happened when Lynn and I each ran errands and came home with a dozen donuts. Great minds think alike. Naturally I had to eat as much as I could since they wouldn't be good the next day... and the fact that they're my favorite sweets. On top that, we always make desserts for July 4th. Lynn made a strawberry cheesecake and banana pudding. I made a lemon loaf. We also already had cookies from days prior and a ton of ice cream in the freezer. It was sugar overload.

For lunch, we had burgers. For dinner, we went over to my parents' house to have ribeye steaks. I cooked half of the steaks (4) and my dad grilled the other half. Let's just say I didn't eat any of my dad's steaks. I like my meat with some pink in the middle... not my dad though.

Hey look at us, we're the US flag! No, we didn't purposely coordinate our outfits although it turned out awesome. What wasn't awesome was the fact that the Forth of July landed in the middle of the week this year. It also sucked that the skies opened up and Houston suffered more flooding. But it was fine, we still managed.

Happy Fourth of July! It kinda sucks that it's on a random Tuesday but hey, what are you gonna do? Anyway, I've been eating clean lately but today was my "cheat day" and boy did I cheat. There was too much good food. And I didn't even touch the brisket I spent all day smoking... I was overly stuffed. :(

The extended July 4th weekend (Fri-Mon) was really random, but fun. It started like any other day off, with the kids playing around the house and the parents doing house work. Then all of a sudden, we decided to have an impromptu board game tournament among the boys (myself included). Of each game played, 3 points went to first, 2 points to second, 1 point to third and last place got nothing. And guess who won the whole thing. It was Andrew, the master of board games.

While almost everyone was off on July 4th, I actually had to work. Yes, someone out there is playing the world's smallest violin for me. But all was not lost. After work, I went over to Lynn's aunt house to spend time with the in-laws where we swam, ate and watched some World Cup action. Later that night, we went to Miller Outdoor Theatre to catch the Houston Symphony and a fireworks display afterwards. But unfortunately we got there late (due to horrible traffic and parking) and could only find a spot on the other side of the hill, meaning you could barely hear the music. And due to the earlier downpour, the ground was soaking wet. The rain was on and off which pushed the fireworks back until 10:30 pm, i.e. wayyy past the boys' bedtime. But in the end, it all paid off.

The Fourth of July landed on the fourth day of the week, also known as the worst day for any holiday. It's in the middle of the freakin' week! Are you supposed to take Tuesday off or Thursday? Or take Thursday and Friday off and have a super extended weekend? For me, it was just one random day off. Nothing special. And with that, we really didn't do anything special for the Fourth.

Independence Day weekend was the beginning of my independence from eating healthy. This was the first weekend since the end of the weight loss bet. This was all going to end very badly.
