Storms and the end of school

This past week, we got some nasty weather which caused so many disruptions. 

First, I had a work trip to Amarillo on the same day the storm front came through Texas. My original flight was set to depart at 4:30 p.m. but it got delayed multiple times and pushed back so far that I didn't arrive in Amarillo until after 3 a.m. 😵

Destination nowhere

It's been ten years since the last spring break we (two or more family members) didn't go on a trip (spend at least one night away from home). Not having travel plans for spring break felt a bit odd, especially since we've always gone somewhere for a decade straight. 

But I (alone) got to travel during the break. Sadly though, it was for work. I had to travel to San Augustine, which I've been to once before in a memorable trip back in 2012. And just like the last trip, I was starving. There's no eateries in San Augustine and apparently I didn't learn my lesson from the previous trip. 

Work–life balance

I'm super grateful for my work-life balance. The scales really tip towards the life than the work. I can't imagine ever going back to an 8-hour (or even 12-hour) shift again. I get to make my own schedule. Most of my work is done remotely, usually at home but essentially anywhere since I'm provided a global modem (internet access on the go). All of this equals freedom. Freedom to spend time on what matters most to me (family). Oh, the things I get to do while most people are stuck at work. I'm not trying to brag but just expressing how lucky and appreciative I am of my situation.

Thank Goodness It's Good Friday. This is the last day of the year to abstain from meat and normally this is not an issue for me but last week, work forced me to the middle of nowhere (San Augustine, TX) and I was ill prepared. My plan was to drive around and stop by any fast food place to get their designated fish sandwich, also known as the Lent special. I was even willing to settle for the dreaded Filet-O-Fish but there was no McDonald's around. I used the Yelp app from my phone and the closest one was in another city, some 20 miles away. Now what?
