As bad as it sounds, the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Memorial Day are the shopping deals to be had. It began Saturday morning when we cruised around our neighborhood scoping out the garage sales we looked up the day before. We got several kid books for a quarter a piece, a giant dinosaur puzzle for $2, and my favorite buy of all, an old-school TV for $5. No remote control here... you need to physically turn the dial to change the channels. Classic. My other steal was the patio furniture set that I got for $400 off the original price (more than 50% off). I was quite excited since I was going to purchase it when the price initially dropped $200 but decided to wait for this weekend. Boy it paid off.

Last night we went to Jacob's graduation ceremony. It seemed a little chaotic, which is expected when you are dealing with a bunch of little kids, but that made it fun.

So the past couple weeks I haven't really kept up with my exercise and have been eating worse than usual. I was a little discouraged that I've remained at the same weight for over a month which made me stop trying. Just this past weekend, I ate Popeye's chicken with skin, mashed potatoes and a biscuit, Spring Creek BBQ chopped beef sandwich with potato salad and cole slaw, Ruggles Cafe bacon bleu cheese burger with fries, and 1/3 of a large pepperoni pizza from Pizza Parlor. The good news is that I didn't do any damage and didn't gain any weight. So now there's a little over a month left until the first weight loss bet is over and I need to refocus/rededicate myself... so that means not going over my set calorie intake limit, no more junk food (maybe) and exercise every day. It's going to be really hard to loose those last 10 pounds.

School's out forever... school's been blown to pieces. The last statement is not true but I can't say the same for Alice Cooper's school. Today was Jacob's final day at St. Helen ECC and he will begin elementary school this coming Fall. Ahhhh he's growing up too fast! Someone stop time!

As a kid, I used to draw all the time. My earliest memory of drawing was with my cousin David and we would always draw Spectreman. I remember the gold crayon was the most worn down since that's all we ever drew. If you never heard of Spectreman, it was very similar to Ultraman in which you have a giant super hero battling monsters on a cheaply-built miniature city set. Being filmed in the 80's, the show probably had ground-breaking stunts and effects but it looks really cheesy if you watch it today.

Yes! Finally food trucks are slowly popping up in Houston as this city needs to catch up with the rest of the country. We're the fourth largest city yet there are more food trucks in Minneapolis of all places. (I'm probably wrong since I have no source of reference but my point is that Houston is always behind on everything.)

There's not one Friday that goes by where that damn Rebecca Black song doesn't pop in my head. "It's Friday, Friday. Gotta get down on Friday." The lyrics are so bad that this song will probably forever remain in my mind. "We, we, we so excited. We so excited." Is that even a proper sentence? If you have no clue what I'm talking about, then you are blessed. But if you would like to know and risk having a terrible song forever stuck in your head, then Google it. Holy shit, 137 million views and going. Don't be left out.
Today is also Friday the 13th. Are you superstitious? Well you shouldn't be.

Ever since I started exercising and going on a calorie-reduced, pseudo-diet... I haven't cooked anything. It's the fact that everything I cook tends to be on the unhealthy side. I miss cooking/experimenting sometimes and if I get inspired, I'm doing it. During our last trip to Austin, we ate some awesome corn dogs at Pluckers of all places so I decided to look up corn dog recipes.

Here's a short video of Andrew counting with his fingers. Hook'em horns.

This past weekend we took a short trip to Austin, TX. It all started when Lisa invited us to Luke's 2nd birthday party at the Austin Zoo. The boys also had their cousins' birthday party that day too, but I had a free room from hotels.com, so I let the boys decide what they wanted to do. I asked them, "Do you want to go to San and Grace's birthday party at the log cabin or to Luke's birthday party at the Austin Zoo? The Austin Zoo doesn't have as many animals as the Houston Zoo (for Jacob's sake) and we will have to stay in a hotel (for Andrew's sake)." I asked them five separate times, wanting confirmation that they were aware of their choices. Jacob consistently said Austin Zoo, even though he was aware that there were no cheetahs (his favorite animal) and very few snakes (which he also loves). Andrew never chose his cousins' party (actually chose my mom's house initially) but later chose to go to Austin as well. I secretly hoped they picked Austin as I definitely would have more fun there than at a kid's party at a log cabin.
