Taking two snowboarding trips in one season? That's a rarity. Doing that post-kids, that's unheard of. But we did it... the whole fam bam... for Spring Break. None of this would've been plausible if we didn't have the minivan, which I regret not getting sooner. Now, I see a future with many more road trips and our second trip with the van would take us back to Colorado. This time to Leadville.

Happy Lunar New Year!

On Friday, Jacob turned another year older. He is now 12 years old and puberty is just around the corner... yikes. The weekend was pretty busy so we were limited on what we could do for his birthday but he was okay with that. He kept it simple and chose Red Robin for his birthday dinner and we got cupcakes from SmallCakes.

I brought home an old fashioned 6-layer chocolate cake from SusieCakes to celebrate our 9 year wedding anniversary (since a sick Andrew prevented us from having our scheduled lunch date) but Elliot just couldn't wait. She loves sweets. She is the ultimate sugar monster. 👾

The title of the post might be confusing but that was the name of Tyson's car for the Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby. Originally he named it Shark T but later wanted to change it to Tyson the Tiger except that he wrote the words in the wrong order... and misspelled tiger (depending on where you're from)... so it ended up being named Tigre the Tyson. Anything is better than what he named his boat for the Raingutter Regatta.

It seems that whenever there's a major weather event that requires schools to close, e.g. flood or ice, it tends to land on a holiday weekend. Our extended weekends get really extended, as seen with Memorial Day 2015 and Labor Day 2017. If I had the powers of Miss Cleo, I would've planned a proper vacation out of this city. And on this past Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, it happened again. This time, it was due to icy conditions.

The kids' 3-day holiday break became a long 5-day break (school closed on Tuesday and Wednesday). My job allows me to "work from home" (lucky for me since I didn't have to venture out on the icy roads) but I usually work out of a coffee shop since it's damn near impossible to get anything done at home. And now with all of the kids... forgettaboutit. But because of the weather, the coffee shops that I frequent were also closed so I had to actually work from home.

After Christmas, we took a road trip to Denver (Arvada to be exact) and spent a week exploring the local area. Finally, we had a successful winter road trip (unlike the previous trip to New Mexico and Colorado). Like they say, third time's the charm.

Weekends tend to be filled with kid-centric activities. Either it's a soccer game or a kid's birthday party or both (#suburbialife). But since we're on a break between soccer seasons, it was purely kid birthday parties... three to be exact. And what do you eat at kid parties? Pizza and cake. So this entire weekend they were fueled by cheese and sugar. But I'm okay with that since each party involved a lot of physical activity and each were really fun ideas. Good times.
