Father's Day weekend

Yes, it's my time. It's time to celebrate being a dad (accidental or not). The post title may be deceiving as we didn't celebrate my fatherhood for an entire weekend but the time spent with my kiddos was all that I needed.

Saturday was Jacob's first T-ball game. (He's growing up so fast...) Coming into this, I had no idea how it was played. I assumed it was regular baseball rules except that they hit the ball off the tee. Nope. In T-ball, every kid gets an at-bat and you get unlimited swings until you hit the ball. No scores are kept and three innings are played. Three innings sounds short but when you're dealing with kids this young, it's actually quite long. A single game lasts roughly an hour and in his first week, it happened to be a doubleheader (played back-to-back games). The first game was fun and comical. The second game was more of the same as Jacob seemed to really get into it (took him awhile to warm up since he seemed nervous/shy initially), hustling for balls and hitting the ball in the outfield. But the heat, the miserable Houston summer, was unbearable. Half the kids wanted to go home during the second game and I know the parents didn't want to sit in the blazing sun any longer. After two games and over two hours long, it mercifully ended. Jacob had fun, which is the only thing that mattered.

Jacob's first career baseball hit.

On Father's Day, we had lunch at The Counter in The Heights. They serve custom built gourmet burgers and you get to choose essentially everything: the meat (beef, chicken, etc), size, toppings, sauce, and bun. Besides the usual burger toppings, they have unique items such as brie, coleslaw, fried egg, ginger soy glaze, and peanut sauce. The burger was decent, thick and not dry, but it was not spectacular as the price would dictate. Their smallest burger (1/3 lb) starts at $8.50 and depending on what toppings you want, it can easily run you $10 a burger... and that's just the burger, no other sides. We ordered the Parmesan garlic fries. Now those were really good. The service was really poor but I blame that on the lousy, mumbling waiter that we got stuck with. Hopefully it's not a reflection of the restaurant as a whole but from the other reviews I read, it seems like the service needs serious improvement. The food itself was not bad at all but with the poor service and over priced food, I will probably not come back. If you've never been, you should at least try it.

My Father's Day gift. Best gift ever. Jacob's picture is on top and Andrew's is on the bottom. I love how Jacob drew himself (blue) so much smaller than me but why does Lynn (pink) have no arms. And what's that red squiggly thing by "Happy Father's Day"? Jacob replied, "It's a spitting cobra." Hahaha. Thanks buddy. I love Andrew's family portrait too and how we all look like aliens. It's too cute.
