Happy lunar new year! It's the year of the snake, my mom and brother's year. So what does it all mean? I have no idea but it can't be good. We're talking about a snake here. But there's no need to worry about horoscopes and fortunes because it's all fake. You make your own luck.
The actual day landed on Sunday so that meant any festivities were to be done on that one day, unlike previous years when you had both Saturday and Sunday (and even Friday).

Our day started with Lynn's side of the family. For lunch, we had a
too traditional Vietnamese meal. I looked back at last year's blog post and grandma made the same exact meal minus the
gio. My only "edible" source of protein was some meat (I think it was meat but it was definitely a part of an animal) tossed in some brown, powdery seasoning. I forced myself to eat it. Needless to say, I was still hungry.

This modified version is such a scam... yet it's so hard to stay away. |
Afterwards we went over to my mom's house for our side of the family celebration. I immediately went straight for the food and devoured full plates of banh cuon, thit nuong, and cheese nachos. Yes, nachos. Not a traditional food you would expect for Tet but it was very satisfying. We played flag football, not our usual rivalry teams, but fun nonetheless. Then it was back inside for more gambling and that was the night. Good times with family.

Add Commenthahaha, the nachos? lol. Very random but cool. Looks like you all had so much fun. Sad to miss out on all the festivities being far away. And gotta love the look on Chi Thu's face with her winnings. -lilly
You should come down next time, though I can see how traveling with three young kids could be difficult. I'll let you try first. :)
That source of protein mixed in the brown powder was RABBIT meat!! My cousin Michael said it was good until I told him it was Rabbit.
I ate rabbit ?!? Oh, grandma... :(
Haven't you noticed Chu Nam's rabbits missing? We were at their house recently and the boys asked where the rabbits were..Bella said they were at the log cabin...
