Last Saturday marked the end of the soccer season. This was Jacob's last game on U10 and Andrew's last game on U8. They'll move up to U12 and U10 respectively, if we decide to continue with soccer. That's the big question since time is such a limited resource. Jacob moving up to U12 means games are on Sundays now. And it's also time for Tyson to join the club (he's been waiting patiently for his chance to play), which means add another practice and game. And if Andrew gets chosen for the league's "select team" (top 10-12 players from his age group), he'll compete against other leagues around Houston. So add more practices and more games on top of his commitment to his recreational team. Add all of those hours to other priorities (school work, reading, BJJ, just playing and being a kid) and there's no more time in the day. What about time for the parents? To work. To cook. To clean. To decompress after a long day. There's just not enough time in a day. Something has to go. But what?
Okay, enough ranting. The year came to a merciful end for Jacob's team as they completed the season winless. Jacob is not an extraordinary player but he scored most (if not all) of their goals. His team was beyond pitiful and he was always out there by himself. It's okay to suck as long as you try hard. Hustle. But not these kids. For example, if the ball comes they'll give it one big, uncontrolled kick to no one and that'll be it. Or even worse, they'll completely miss the ball and give up, leaving it to roll past them for the other team. I mean my goodness, it was so irritating to watch, especially since Jacob is hustling back and forth, playing both offense and defense. Fuck, there I go again... ranting again. I'm done (for now).
Andrew's team was the polar opposite. They went undefeated in the Fall season and I think only lost once in the Spring season. They whopped up on one team so badly that they added another player (4 vs 5). I know it's not all about winning but watching a team get crushed week after week, i.e. Jacob's team, sucks big time which is surprising when Jacob told us that he wants to play again next season. Ummm, we'll see.

Add CommentThis year was our first season to not be WINLESS...It was an odd feeling indeed. We suspect this year was an anomaly, which we will savor for as long as we can. As for what goes, I also suspect it will be your "Time to decompress" ;) Good Luck!
Sadly I think you're right Chi Thu. :(
