COVID-19 and social distancing

On Saturday March 14 (at the end of the kids' Spring Break) we found out that the school district would close for another week. Wow, a two week break for the kiddos. Lucky.

Then two days later, the district extended school closure through April 10. OMG. This is getting serious.

On March 19, the governor of Texas issues executive orders which affected many:

Order No. 1: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, every person in Texas shall avoid social gatherings in groups of more than 10 people.

Order No. 2: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, people shall avoid eating or drinking at bars, restaurants, and food courts, or visiting gyms or massage parlors; provided, however, that the use of drive-thru, pickup, or delivery options is allowed and highly encouraged throughout the limited duration of this executive order.

Order No. 3: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, people shall not visit nursing homes or retirement or long-term care facilities unless to provide critical assistance.
Order No. 4: In accordance with the Guidelines from the President and the CDC, schools shall temporarily close.

On March 26, the mayor of Pearland issued a "stay at home" order:

Order (TR 4), which goes into effect at 6 p.m. on March 26th, is a stay safe at home order that limits activities within the Pearland community to those that are essential. Under this order residents should only leave home to:

  • Visit a doctor, dentist, or other healthcare provider
  • Go to a grocery store, pick up food from a restaurant, or pick up supplies to care for a pet
  • Go to work at an essential business
  • Go to a home improvement store to buy items essential for well-being at home
  • Engage in outdoor activities (walk, run, ride a bike)
  • Please continue social distancing in this scenario
  • Care for family members, pets, or others in another household

On March 29, the POTUS announced that federal social distancing guidelines will continue until April 30.

Well that escalated fast. So what does this all mean? How do we adjust to this new normal?

Kids doing online classroom and school work.

I'm working from home... outside.

Lots of biking around the neighborhood.

Hot mess of Legos.

Playing tons of board games (Machi Koro).

Got Lynn to train jiu-jitsu... and choke me out. 😑
