We often have pizza night at our house for dinner but instead of ordering pizza (from Pizza Parlor), I decided we should each make our own. The kids rolled out their own dough and topped it off themselves. It was fun... and messy.
The recipe:
1 pkt yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1 Tbsp honey (or sugar)
[mix and let sit for 5 mins to activate yeast]
3/4 c. water
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 1/2 c. flour
[mix together with dough hook and knead of 5 mins]
olive oil PRN
[coat with olive oil. cover. let rise for 1-2 hours.]
1. Roll out dough onto floured surface. Note that this recipe makes about two full-sized pizzas so save the rest.
2. Preheat the oven to 500-525F with a pizza stone on the middle rack.
3. Top the pizza however you wish and bake it for about 6 mins or whenever it looks done.
4. Stuff your face.
These pizzas were more like a Neapolitan pizza than the "traditional" pizza, i.e. big and greasy. This pizza had a thin, crispy outer crust (like a cracker) and was chewy in the middle.

Add CommentThis looks yummy! Sometimes I pre-bake the pizza dough for 5-6 minutes first, pull it out, then put the topping on...and it's crispy the entire way through. By the way, I LOVE that you use pharmacy lingo on your recipe..."Olive Oil PRN." Hahaha. You make me laugh, Dr. Jimmy. :)
It didn't even occur to me when I wrote "PRN" that no one will understand it. It comes so naturally.
Thanks for the cooking tip, I will definitely try it on our next attempt.
